In short
The game works offline and has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your game is saved only on your device. The one thing it can send is anonymous gameplay stats, and only if you choose to share them. They help improve Scanbound and shape future updates, and nothing in them identifies you.
The camera
Scanbound asks to use your camera so it can read barcodes and QR codes. The camera view is read live, on your device, only to find a code. No photos are taken, saved or sent.
You can say no, or turn camera access off at any time in your device's Settings.
What stays on your device
To play, Scanbound saves a few things in its own storage on your device:
- Your game: your Heroes, your collection, your current run, and the values of the codes you have scanned, so the game remembers which Hero each code revealed.
- Your settings: graphics, audio, tips and similar choices.
- A small diagnostic history: a record of errors - what failed, the app and system version, and the error details - to help fix problems. It does not include barcode values, your saved game, or the names of your Heroes.
None of this is uploaded by Scanbound. Your device's own backup service (such as iCloud Backup or Android backup) may include it, under Apple's or Google's terms. Deleting Scanbound from your device deletes all of it.
Gameplay stats (only if you choose)
The first time you open the game, it asks whether you'd like to share anonymous gameplay stats. Nothing is collected unless you choose Share Stats, and you can change your mind at any time in Options → Gameplay Stats. Turning it off deletes anything not yet sent.
If you share, the game sends:
- Which Heroes, Weapons, looks, Hero Mods and Team Directives were used, and which traits were active.
- How battles and runs went: wins and losses, how far a run got, and how long things took.
- What the in-run shop offered and what was taken.
- How long the game was open, the type of device (phone or tablet) and the system version.
- How many Heroes and Weapons your collection holds, as counts.
- A random ID made by the game, so stats from one device can be grouped together. It isn't tied to you, your Apple ID or your device's hardware, and turning stats off throws it away, so turning them back on starts a new one.
The stats never include the barcodes you scan, your Tactician name, an account, your location, or anything else that identifies you, and the IP address they come from is not kept. They are used only to balance and improve the game. They are not used for tracking or advertising, and they are not shared with or sold to anyone.
Stats are sent only when you're online, and are stored for 90 days in Microsoft Azure in the United States (Central US).
Players under 13: where Apple tells the game a player is under 13, the game never asks, and no stats are ever collected.
Sharing a diagnostic report
If something goes wrong, Options has a Share Diagnostic Report button. It opens your device's share sheet, and you choose where the report goes, if anywhere. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
If you email a report or a question to the developer, it is used only to answer you and fix the problem, is never shared or sold, and is deleted when it is no longer needed.
Purchases
The optional Supporter Pack is bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment under their own privacy policies. The developer never receives your payment details. Scanbound only records on your device that the pack is owned, and checks with the store to restore it.
Children
Scanbound collects no personal information from anyone. Gameplay stats are anonymous, opt-in, and never collected from a player Apple reports as under 13.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If Scanbound ever collects anything beyond what is described above, the policy will say so before it happens.
